Marathon swimmer, Scott Zornig, from Coto de Caza, California, has come out of retirement and continues his training with a scheduled swim around Coronado Island on Saturday, in preparation for an upcoming swim across the Strait of Gibraltar.
To maximize safety during his training swim, Zornig will have a boat with a Coast Guard-licensed captain from Boatsetter, the leading international peer-to-peer boat rental service, to assist with any issues that may arise.
“We are happy to work alongside Scott and all of the other marathon swimmers who need a service like Boatsetter,” said Pablo Vidal, chief marketing officer of Boatsetter.com, which combines the rental mechanics of Airbnb with the on-demand labor dynamics of Uber. “Boatsetter is not just a boat rental company, we provide the peace of mind of having a Coast Guard-licensed captain who knows the local waters, threats, and best places to complete swims, not just in the San Diego area, but worldwide.”
Zornig will be trailed by the Le Zurich, a 28-foot, Sea Ray Sundancer, while he makes his trek through the waters of the Pacific Ocean. Patrick Burkhardt, the owner of Le Zurich, has been in the hospitality industry for years and decided to begin using Boatsetter to monetize his boat.
“Using Boatsetter has saved me from having to sell my boat and has provided me with more time on my boat than I ever expected,” explained Burkhardt. “I’m looking forward to being the chase boat for Scott as he trains for his swim across the Strait of Gibraltar.”
Many like Zornig swim competitively and are in need of boats to assist in their longer distance swims. In today’s asset sharing economy, marathon swimmers can now go to a boat-sharing marketplace like Boatsetter, who has a platform in place, to connect themselves with boat owners and captains.
Zornig identified that, while swimming around Coronado Island isn’t exactly what he will face in late June when he heads over to Spain, he knows it is important to get longer swims in each time he goes out.
A visit with his doctor about his health lead Zornig to decide to use swimming to get back into shape. Zornig, now 56 years old and 103 pounds lighter from the time he started swimming, and is enjoying life in and out of the water.
Boatsetter offers a platform for boat owners such as Patrick Burkhardt to safely and seamlessly list their boats for rent. Boatsetter boat owners are in total control of the process including the price, the boat’s availability calendar, whether a captain should be required as well as a final sign off on all rental requests.
Boatsetter empowers people to explore with confidence by showing them a world of possibility on the water. Rent a boat, list your boat, or become a Boatsetter captain today.
