Part of the U.S. Virgin Islands, St. John is filled with lush green mountains, turquoise-toned water, colorful coral reefs and swaying palm trees. Spend the day snorkeling and swimming in crystal clear water at Trunk Bay, which has a 225-yard long underwater nature trail where you can share the sea with turtles, colorful fish and other marine animals.

Most of St. John is made up of the Virgin Islands National Park, so there is plenty of opportunity for water sports and boating adventures. Visitors can hike, swim, snorkel and dive to their heart’s content. Rent a boat or book a boat charter for a really memorable experience. Here are some of our suggestions for St. John boat rentals and charters.

Cruz Bay Watersports

While in St. John, why not take a day trip to the British Virgin Islands? You can visit the Baths of Virgin Gorda, sip rum drinks at the Soggy Dollar Bar and relax on the soft white sand of White Bay aboard a charter boat cruise. With Cruz Bay Watersports, you’ll sail around the islands and stop at small beaches, snorkeling spots and scenic beach bars. Full day, half day and sunset cruises are available. A full day generally consists of snorkeling, diving, swimming or just relaxing. Depending on the departure time, breakfast or lunch could be included in the boat charter.

Low Key Watersports

Located near the main ferry dock in Cruz Bay, Low Key Watersports offers diving and snorkeling trips as well as SCUBA courses and certification. Have fun on wreck and night diving trips. You can also rent kayaks and hobie cats, and take charter trips to the Baths and Jost Van Dyke in the British Virgin Islands. No room in your luggage for snorkel sets and flippers? No worries. Low Key Watersports has snorkel gear available for rent or purchase.

Saint John Shipbuilding Island Sloop

Whether it’s a snorkeling excursion or a romantic sunset cruise, this 23-foot sailboat is a relaxing and unique way to see the islands. Two different boat trips depart daily in Coral Bay. The full day sail is from 9:30 to 2:00 and includes lunch, soft drinks, rum drinks, water and beer. The sunset cocktail cruise is determined by the time of the sunset, and it lasts about 2 ½ hours and includes light snacks, water, soft drinks, rum drinks and beer. A captain is included in this St. John boat charter. All you have to do is show up and be ready for adventure.
