Lake Conroe is less than an hour hour drive north of Houston and about an hour east of College Station, Texas.

It is an artificial reservoir created by the San Jacinto River Authority, the City of Houston, and the Texas Water Development Board in 1973. A dam was constructed on the San Jacinto River to create it.

The lake, as of 2022, has 22,000 surface acres and is about twenty miles long. Most of the lake is twenty feet deep, but the southern section of the lake by the dam is closer to seventy-five feet deep.

The southern side of the lake is primarily luxury condos, high-end golf courses, apartments, townhomes, and lux suburban neighborhoods. The Sam Houston National Forest surrounds the northern side of the lake. You’ll find more wildlife, camping opportunities, quiet moments, swimming, and fishing places here.
