FAQS
How old do I have to be to rent a boat?
The registered renter and driver of the boat must be at least 25 years of age.
Do I need a license or experience to rent a boat?
No license is required. However, some prior boating experience is helpful. For an additional instruction fee, we can instruct first-time boaters until you are confident in your ability to navigate and operate the boat.
What should we bring with us?
Sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, water, snacks or lunch, beach towels, camera, and cell phone (yes, there is cell coverage in most places on the water).
How early should we arrive before we go?
Morning rentals can arrive any time after 8 a.m. for an approximate departure time of 8:30 a.m. Afternoon rentals should arrive any time after 12:30 p.m. for an approximate 1 p.m. departure time. Full-day rentals should arrive any time after 8:30 a.m. All rentals must return by 5 p.m. Late charges apply after this.
What should we expect when we arrive?
After signing you in and completing paperwork, we show you the location of all U.S. Coast Guard-required safety gear on the boat, the operation of the outboard motor, and any other features on the boat. We show you where and how far you are allowed to go as well as local charts, and we explain basic red/green buoy navigation. We go over the slow speed areas as well as some hidden spots to explore.
Can we bring our dog?
Yes, dogs are always welcome.
Can we fish?
Yes. We do not supply gear, but you are welcome to bring your own.
Are life jackets provided?
Adult life jackets are provided. Children 12 and under are required by state law to wear a life jacket at all times aboard the vessel. While we do have life jackets for children, it is recommended you provide your own that may be more comfortable to wear all day.
What are some of the places we can go?
There are many ways you can choose to spend your day. Start by exploring the Inner Hyannis Harbor, tie up for fish and chips at Baxter’s Boathouse, then make your way out to Lewis Bay, drop anchor, and take a swim off Egg Island, a sandbar that appears for three hours on each side of low tide. Venture out to Hyannis Port Harbor, get a peek at the Kennedy compound, and maybe even find a Kennedy or two out on the water.
There are several coves and inlets that make great swimming holes. Drop anchor and enjoy the warm waters of the Nantucket Sound.
Can we go to Nantucket or Martha’s Vineyard?
Unfortunately, the islands of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket are out of the rental range limit.
How much gas can I burn?
The amount of fuel depends on how far and how fast you go. For example, 3/4 throttle only burns half the fuel as full throttle, and tubing uses much more than sightseeing. The average half-day rental ranges from 3 to 10 gallons, and full-day use averages about 15 gallons. Marine fuel prices are higher per gallon than automotive gas. The Hyannis Marina Gas docks are not far from our location. If you don’t want to fill upon return or you are running out of time, that’s okay; we can take care of it for you (charges apply).
